Help Drum Up “The Dresden Files”

While cable seems to have the cure for broadcast television re-runs, these alternating shows on for a season and off for a season are a mixed blessing. Take the strange case of SciFi Channel’s so-called SciFi Friday, with shows like “Painkiller Jane” (which is hardly watchable) and the abysmal “Flash Gordon” (which is painfully unwatchable and rumored for the chopping block). Even the mid-week filler “Eureka” seems rather random in its plot and execution while other shows that people want keep getting canceled, presumably due to costs.

Although I’ve never read the books upon which it was based, “The Dresden Files” seemed to be moving and improving right ’til the end. It had great characters, clever bits, secrets to reveal, and in all things a nice change of pace from the typical fantasy magical adventure, like using a mundane drum stick as a cleverly disguised wand, or a hockey stick when you need a real staff of power.

Following the grass roots “nuts” campaign to get “Jericho” back on the air, a new campaign to resurrect Harry Dresden is encouraging sending drum sticks to execs to let them know we’d prefer better programming instead of cheaper fare. If you think the Chicago-based wizard-for-hire deserves another chance, check out the “Save Dresden” campaign details before Bob has to make room for Harry inside that skull of his.
