Orlando Bloom as ‘Prince of Persia’?

Did we miss this somewhere else? We know Jerry Bruckheimer is behind the Prince of Persia movie, but Orlando Bloom as the Prince himself? According to SliceofScifi.com, he “beat out Zac Efrom of High School Musical fame for the leading role.”

Do we REALLY have to go into all the reasons this is a bad idea, or can we just point the finger at Kingdom of Heaven? Orlando Bloom is a fine young actor… in the right role. Lord of the Rings? Fine. Pirates of the Caribbean? Tolerable. Prince of Persia? Nah.

Bloom’s demeanor too soft to have the real presence of a leading man, even when he’s angry. Even in Elizabethtown, it just seems impossible for Kirsten Dunst to be this infatuated with someone so uninteresting… again, not what he does, just how he acts. Even in At World’s End, is there anything about him that says “Captain of the Flying Dutchman?”

What Prince of Persia needs is an Arabic-looking unknown channeling Shia LaBeouf, a twenty-something Antonio Banderas swashbuckler that is as compelling to follow as he is to watch. Seriously guys, Legolas with a fake tan isn’t your Prince.

UPDATE: ComingSoon.net says this is all rumor and Disney is denying. Oh, thank Hades!
