Things Learned at Spooky Empire 2009

Another Spooky Empire (with a Halloween Horror Nights chaser) has come and gone, and like every year, we’ve learned a few new things.

  • Director John Landis is afraid of Death (but not a book of Grim’s film reviews).
  • Amazon Women on the Moon was supposed to have been the first film made for direct-to-video before it was inexplicably released theatrically.
  • Jerry Dandridge is well aware of how far vampires have fallen with Edward Cullen as a role model.
  • Lance Guest is the perfect age for a sequel to The Last Starfighter.
  • Elvira: there’s nothin’ like the REAL thang, baby.
  • Must find out earlier when the VIP party starts.
  • You can miss a lot when you’re booked into too many panels, but you meet a lot of great people.
  • Undead Michael Jackson doing the “Thriller” dance is even cooler now (too soon?)
  • No one should advertise a George Romero appearance until he actually steps foot inside the building, just in case.
  • The witches from The Craft (including Fairuza Balk) are cooler because the “Charmed” ones are “gooders” (we voted, so it’s true.)
  • “Zombie Survival Guide” author Max Brooks may well be haunted by the disembodied head of Horatio Sanz.
  • We want to live in Dracula’s Castle (as envisioned by Universal Studios Orlando).

Until next year…!
